Saudi Arabia has officially announced the date for Eid-el-Kabir 2025, following the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent moon. According to the Kingdom’s Supreme Court, the crescent was sighted on the evening of Sunday, May 26, 2025. As a result, Monday, May 27 marks the first day of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th and final month in the Islamic lunar calendar.
This announcement places Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid al-Adha, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. This sacred festival, often referred to as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is the second and most significant of the two Islamic holidays celebrated globally. It commemorates the unwavering faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to God’s command.
The Significance of Dhul Hijjah
The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are among the most spiritually rewarding in Islam. Muslims around the world engage in fasting, prayer, charity, and remembrance of Allah during this period. For those able to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, these days are the peak of their religious journey.
